Omar M. Hassan, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon. He completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Northwestern University after finishing his ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he gained advanced experience in medical and surgical diseases of the retina.
Dr. Hassan earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois and holds a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from Northwestern University, where he graduated cum laude with a concentration in tissue engineering and transport. Earlier in his career, he conducted basic science research on retinal oxygenation, hypoxia, hyperglycemia and visual biomechanics through the Robert Linsenmeier and Malcolm MacIver laboratories at Northwestern. His research work contributed to peer-reviewed publications and national conference presentations.
Dr. Hassan has authored articles in Ophthalmology Retina, the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Cornea, the American Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports and JAMA Ophthalmology. He also contributed to a textbook chapter on limbal allograft transplantation for aniridia and has delivered presentationsd at major meetings, including ARVO and the Yannuzzi Rounds International Conference.
