To My Patients,
I am writing to inform you that I will be retiring from my practice as of September 16, 2026.
For many years now, it has been my honor and privilege to have earned your trust in caring for your vision. We have shared ups and downs, laughter, and sometimes tears; through it all, I have felt incredibly blessed to spend my days with you. You have made it possible for me to do the rewarding work that I have truly loved every day. You have been true examples of courage and grace. I am humbled and grateful beyond measure.
I am delighted that the outstanding Rumya Rao, MD, will be assuming the care of patients in my Oak Park office. Patients from my Hoffman Estates office may schedule with Drs. Michael, Wessel, or Brodowska in that office. I have had the opportunity to work with these physicians for the past two years, and I have found each of them to be an excellent doctor who is truly committed to the best interests of their patients.
For patients who typically see me in Lombard, Retina Institute of Illinois is continuing to work on coverage for patients in the Lombard office. In the meantime, Meena George, MD, at University Retina in Lombard has graciously agreed to assist in the care of any Lombard patients who have difficulty scheduling in our Lombard office. Dr. George is located at 1 E. 22nd Street in Lombard. You may call our Lombard office for assistance in scheduling an appointment, and we will make sure your records are available. I worked with Dr. George when we both taught ophthalmology residents at Hines VA. Dr. George is a superb clinician and a genuinely kind person.
Another option for Lombard patients would be to be seen at any Retina Institute of Illinois location; please find enclosed a list of office locations and phone numbers. For those of you remaining within the Retina Institute of Illinois system, physicians at any RII location will have ready access to your records. In addition to the list of offices, we have enclosed a records release form should you choose another option for your care. You may call any of the offices with questions or concerns. For your convenience, you may contact 847-297-8900 to reach any and all locations.
If there is any way I can help personally, please let the staff know.
I regret that I will not be able to say personal goodbyes to so many of you. Over the years, you have become like family to me. Words fall short of expressing my gratitude for your warmth and friendship. Thank you.
Wishing you many blessings, now and always,
Susan Vierling, MD
